This may be deemed an over discussed subject, however I think it’s still widely misunderstood by many & it’s benefits highly underrated.
When discussing morning routines you tend to get 2 types of people, there’s person A who couldn’t think of anything worse than being constrained by a list of rituals to perform whilst still in a docile state, then there’s person B who has seen positive changes in their life by committing to the simple daily practise.
I totally get it from person A’s point of view, there are so many rules in life already, why should we inflict self made ones on ourselves?
The list for reasons why is endless.
- Stronger focus throughout the day
- Increased energy levels
- Better alignment with your goals
- A feeling of greater control in your life
- Gives you a sense of purpose
- Helps create a winners mentality
- Primes your mind for the day
There are no negatives to a powerful morning routine, just believers and non believers and I would love to encourage the non believers to dip their toe in the water and give it a try. I like to think of it as winning the day first thing! Have you ever noticed that when your day starts frantically, i.e you oversleep, miss breakfast, leave the house in a mess, it seems to continue along that parallel for the rest of the day, everything seems to go against you. Personally I’m a lover of morning rituals and credit it for a majority of my progress in health & wellbeing.
Ready to give it a go?
Start small and develop your routine, notice what works for you and correct course where necessary, there is no point in doing something that doesn’t serve you or bring value to your life. I know lots of people who meditate every morning simply for the fact that they’ve read daily meditation is beneficial, there’s no arguing with the fact that it is, but it’s pointless doing an activity that doesn’t give you a feeling of accomplishment. You may be one of those people who gets just as much from a 10 minute walk first thing, taking in the sounds of nature and enjoying the calm of the world before the hectic daily lives of the masses begin.
Any of the below would be beneficial
- A short meditation
- Drinking water first thing ( at least 500ml)
- Wake up at the same time everyday. And yes, every day includes the weekends!!!
- Walk or run outdoors
- Practise gratitude
- Short stretching routine
- Visualising on any goal you’re working towards
- 50 Press Ups ( or even 20 if that’s all you can manage)
- Any form of exercise
- Eating Breakfast Mindfully
That said, whatever you choose, be consistent and try it for at least 7 consecutive days before making a call on whether it forms part of your routine.
Think you don’t have time? As Tony Robbins famously said…
‘If you don’t have 10 minutes to prime your mind, you don’t have a life’
